What happened in the gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel arm?

Recruitment was poor. 11 patients were assigned to this arm, 3 dropped out before receiving Saltikva, and of the 8 treated, 1 received fewer than five doses. In the 7 patients analyzed, median progression-free survival was 6 months and median overall survival 8.6 months. Because this regimen is less toxic but less effective, oncologists tended to assign frailer patients to it. Gemcitabine has known antimicrobial activity, which the investigators suggest may explain the limited effect in this arm (J Cell Immunol 2026). Salspera no longer supports giving Saltikva with gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel.
